Fun is the easiest way to change people’s behaviour!

Sebastian Deterding posted a great slideshow presentation on Slideshare about what user exerperience (UX) can and cannot learn from games.

Early in his presentation Sebastian demonstrates the theory by showing a video called ‘Bottle Bank Arcade’ in which a game element is added to a public bottle bank depository. The hypothesis, created by TheFunTheory is to make more people deposit their used and empty bottles into the green bottle banks. Result? On one eventing the regular (non game) bottle bank was used twice, the modified version over 100 times!
