Soldats de Plomb

July 1, 2010  |  Personal  |  No Comments

To cheer up this already bright and sunny day, here in the Netherlands, I thought I would share a fantastically created movie that I found on Vimeo.

The movie, titled Soldats de Plomb (meaning ‘Toy Soldiers’), was created by Alta media Productions using a Canon 7D and 5DmkII.

The movie shows troops in Paris preparing for a parade, most like Bastille Day or La Fête Nationale as it is known to the French. The parade is mostly military and as this video will show, a lot of preperation is involved.

The technique used in the video is called tilt/shift using Canon’s TS-E lenses (24 and 90mm) in combination with a low FPS (Canon 5DmkII is 3.5fps, jpg small).

Refurnishing my appartment

June 30, 2010  |  Personal  |  No Comments

Last night my girlfriend and I went to my appartment in Rijswijk to clean up after some hefty paint work we did during the weekend. I thought I would take a quick snapshot of our ‘work-in-progress’. There is still some work left to do, but we are very happy with what we have done so far.

The photo was taken using an iPhone application called ‘Autostitch‘. The guys at Cloudburst Research recently released version 3 of Autostitch which brought some major improvements. This image consisted of 41 individual photo’s merged together in the app. There is no way you can find a tool this good for a desktop/laptop computer for only €1,59 ($2.99).

The post processing was done with the application ‘Camera+‘. The application is still on sale for only €0,79 ($0.99), I highly recommend it! As some people say, this is what Apple’s iPhone camera app should have been.

I Shoot DJ’s – Officially closed for business

May 9, 2010  |  Professional  |  No Comments

It is with a little sadness that I am announcing the closure of my photography business. In 2005 I started doing commissioned work in the dance industry, photographing festivals, crowds and DJ’s. I really enjoyed it, I mostly enjoyed photographing DJ’s in action. Capturing their emotions, their energy and hidden driving force behind some of the greatest sets I have ever heard.

I was lucky enough to photograph many of the top DJ’s in the world, Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Carl Cox, Above & Beyond, David Guetta, Paul van Dyk, Sander van Doorn, Sasha, Moby, Axwell, James Zabiela and the list goes on. It was an amazing experience, one that took me to places like Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Poland and the UK.

Some photo’s can still be seen at my website www.ishootdjs.com although I will be putting this domain name up for sale soon. There are many people I want to thank for their support, James Algate (Angel Music Group), James Grant (Anjunabeats), Andrea Frey (Angel Music Group), Vincent van der Heijden (B2S) and Bela Molnar (Hi-Fi Entertainment) to name a few.

Any regrets or wishes? None really. The Miami WMC would have been a great place to do some work, but we can’t win them all. To all other aspiring dance event photographers I want to say good luck, be creative, be yourself, give the pro’s room to do their work and respect the DJ, the stage manager and yourself!
