High flying, low passes

August 23, 2010  |  Personal  |  No Comments

Well, not much can be said about Team Black Sheep. I found a video of theirs on Vimeo and I just had to share it. Team Black Sheep posted a video, a first person view (FPV) recorded from what they are referring to as RiSCyD (nothing found on Google), a remote controlled aircraft of some sorts that is capable of flying 178km/h, record HD video images and all that above the Alps (Swiss I presume).

In the video you can see the aircraft make several amazing passes over differet local peaks. Make sure you try and spot the trekkers on the various peaks that come into view. The perspective is intriguing, a real birds-eye view of the surrounding mountainous area.

Soldats de Plomb

July 1, 2010  |  Personal  |  No Comments

To cheer up this already bright and sunny day, here in the Netherlands, I thought I would share a fantastically created movie that I found on Vimeo.

The movie, titled Soldats de Plomb (meaning ‘Toy Soldiers’), was created by Alta media Productions using a Canon 7D and 5DmkII.

The movie shows troops in Paris preparing for a parade, most like Bastille Day or La Fête Nationale as it is known to the French. The parade is mostly military and as this video will show, a lot of preperation is involved.

The technique used in the video is called tilt/shift using Canon’s TS-E lenses (24 and 90mm) in combination with a low FPS (Canon 5DmkII is 3.5fps, jpg small).

Robby Naish rips it in Hawaii

Growing up in my teens I really enjoyed windsurfing. Nothing spectacular, just on a nearby lake with my Bic Fun Board. I was a huge fan of the windsurfers in the Pro Tour, especially Robby Naish. Over 17 years later and after a quick search online, I found out that Robby is still ripping it up. The guy is talented on any board it seems… check out the video to see what I mean!

Sean Power on Web Analytics

June 2, 2010  |  Professional, Video  |  No Comments

This is a short interview with Complete Web Monitoring co-author Sean Power, conducted during the Web Analytics Congress 2010 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Sean was there on behalf of MeasureWorks and co-hosted a workshop together with Jeroen Tjepkema. In this interview the response and adoption of complete web monitoring is briefly discussed and Sean shares his thoughts on Web Analytics in general.

Some Web Analytics quotes:

Web Analytics is easy, should be easy, should provide answers to very common sense based questions and should be there to help explain a story.

The industry has been rushing to add KPI’s upon KPI’s upon KPI’s that can often be misleading, confusing or just unnecessary… and the tools, as good as they are, can easily send us in directions we don’t need to go.

It is more important to put common sense back into analytics and to start thinking in terms of how to better your organization, your product or the feature that you are working on within your product.

Web Analytics is too complex, there are too many numbers and we are getting bombarded by too many KPI’s that are 99% of the time totally useless.

The biggest pitfall of Web Analytics today is simply that of too much information and trying to find too many silver bullets when none exist.

What are your thoughts on these quotes?
